Entwicklung eines Wohnquartiers, 2010
Competition Entry 2010, Code Level 5
The basic idea is to develop a housing area that responds to the specific site parameters such as the significant slope towards the town in the north, the soft shaped hills of the area and the location of the site at the south border of Carryduff. The overall setting creates a generous ensemble with a neighbourhood formed by the existing verve of the site with excellent views to nature and town. Within the site the overall setting is developed to orientate as many dwellings as possible respecting the topographical lines in order to avoid dispensible earthmovement and reinforcement activities. To create a reasonable density the building types are designed as row houses and semi dettached dwellings in order to get efficient A/V parameters and to keep as much nature reserved as possible. The dwellings are maximized on top of the hill as views to the nature and sun position are best here and construction is easier since this part of the land is almost flat. We designed 4 building types which are extendable from 60 to 110 sqm to provide the required layouts outlined in the competition brief. All accomodations are facing south providing sunny, light filled homes. Added roofs will be equiped with pv cells and solar collectors to keep energy bills low and meet code level 5 standards. Existing green links at the eastern border will be reinforeced, additional links from existing footpaths from the northern developments will connect to the new development and the southern fields. We also designed fantastic homes that people would love to spend time in. Everyone has a garden and outside plot on both sides of the facade. A generous open plan kitchen-dining room formsx the heart of every home, opening out with full height glass doors onto the south facing privat gardens. Double height living rooms succesfully bring natural light deep into the built volume. Home working space is provided throughout.
